You have to hand it to him, Alonso flew in the night and has driven brilliantly so far, giving nothing away to the seasoned endurance drivers.

Got real worried when I saw the first part of your sentence. Have seen it too many times over the years.

Sounds like a fuel issue. Maybe some error on refueling/pitting that meant they were short on fuel?

theory on tv here is that it's an electronic issue. Was stuck in first gear at pit limiter speed

Apparently it was his inlap and he didn't pit so they had to save fuel to get around again, lol.

Yay, home and watching finally!

I don't mind looking at the scrolling positions bar, but I do wish (which I don't think I've ever seen in endurance racing) that they'd put on the side of the screen the current top 3 in each class. Would make it a lot easier to catch up on positions quickly.

Looks like Alonso is going to miss out from that spin earlier. Doubt they're going to catch up a lap in the final hour.

Yeah I agree, annoyingly there's a perfectly sized blue empty space at the bottom of the screen to have the top 3 from a particular class, then scroll through to the next every 5 seconds or so.

There's a free official app with live timing where you can select the individual classes if you're interested. Though it's a bit late I suppose and the podiums are all pretty much sorted now.

Why are they flashing the lights when driving behind someone? Are they trying to signal the car in front to move over? Aren't they supposed to just make a move for the overtake?

They flash when lapping cars. Just adds to the 'Get out of the way' feeling for the car in front. Particularly useful with such differences in speeds between classes.

If they're lapping them it's to make sure they check their mirrors and know they are there. When they're battling it's to try to distract them (at least that's what the commentators said but I'm surprised in a way that it is allowed).

#8 wins and Alonso takes his first Le Mans win on his first attempt. Looked damn impressive speed wise too.

Congrats to Buemi, Alonso, Nakajima and the Toyota team, suspect Fernando will find the last leg of his quest far more difficult than today's accomplishment.

Alonso deserves this. There’s no such thing as an easy Le Mans win. To win Le Mans first you have to beat the track. Taking into consideration his performance last year at Indy 500, he’s currently the best racing driver on the planet.

added - and NOW they return to regular programing w/ Two Guys Garage..........(so we don't even get to see the podium ceremonies)......

Yep.

Can't help but feel that's sealed his fate as an F1 driver, and that he (and most likely McLaren) will do a full season of Indycar next year, to give him a proper go at the Indy 500.

And with the new regulations coming in for the 2010 season, McLaren could well enter Le Mans as a manufacturer with FA as one of their drivers perhaps.

But I know what you're saying. And it'd be good to see McLaren enter other motorsports again.

Well done Fernando! Although it was effectively a two-horse race he had to drive a big night stint to make up the deficit of a penalty and pulled it off.
Gutted for Jenson though - very good drive himself but the car failed him and his team-mates.

I've been following a little of the youtube channel. They did the YT well, getting chunks up fairy quickly. I'll catch some more highlights.

Well done to Alonso, Nakajima and Buemi. Huge deal for those guys. Hadn't really followed so was surprised, despite evidence maybe I shouldn't have been.

I think you need to re-read the post again. The car failed Jenson and his team mates not Jenson was failed by the car and his team mates.

Do. I've been there twice. It's an amazing weekend of pure motorsport heaven

You sure don't see this close interaction between the drivers and fans in Formula One.

The attendance in 2017 was 258,500 people. We are talking about a sea of humanity, all smiling and enjoying themselves to the maximum.
