I have been working on a new type of poll, an automated version of the var "rank the drivers" "rank the teams" types of poll.

As a beta test of it, I've started this poll here so I can see whether it works correctly, and if it does we can roll it out as a full feature.

Please provide feedback / ideas / bug reports about the UI in this thread. It's probably best to put actual race related discussion in the official race thread and just treat this purely for the development of this feature.

Regarding the use of the poll, you need to order ALL things in the poll, you can't submit a partial listing, as the maths for calculating the order requires that all items are selected.

You click on the items in the left to put them in the right list after the blue highlighted item. If you want to move where the item is being inserted after, click on that item in the right hand side (and to insert at the top of a list, select the title at the top of the right hand list)

Clicking the cross symbol returns the item back to the left list.

Future features will include generating a BBcode list insert of your vote to put in your post.

I will also point out, that I am very limited on what I can do. I can't make any changes to the back end code of the forum, and this is a complete front end hack of the existing poll forum, with some javascript to present and calculate the results.

So in terms of features, a lot of things that would be nice may not be possible to implement.

This will be interesting to see how accurately we as a forum can crowd-predict the actual result of the race...

The old wisdom of crowds theory.

Not counting retirements, it looks like a safe bet so far.

At the moment, the average positions are looking like the spacing of the field in seconds at the end of lap 1...

Nice idea!

With it being Monaco, I just put them in grid order except for Leclerc who should make up some positions at the pitstops and Grosjean who I expect to crash at some point.

Interesting test. This might work well for the driver of the day threads, if people want to put in the work to rank them all...

Long term I can update it to have a "choose your top three in order" from a list, have it assign different points (say F1 points scheme) for different places etc... I could even have a system such as "Distribute (any number up to) 31 points amongst the drivers as you see fit" But as I haven't made the UI for this simple implementation yet, it's one step at a time ;)

It was the "rank the drivers" poll that DOLOMITE occassionally runs that got me thinking of trying to implement this in the forum as it's a lot of work to do manually, and people often didn't follow the instructions properly. Maybe after the race week, I will run that poll too.

I guess someone just predicted Hamilton and Verstappen to collide in the first corner, as they just dropped from 1/2 to 2/3 in a single vote!

What about the Mercedes duo not finishing the race, as well as Vettel ?

Ha - although given the nature of Monaco it's possibly the least predictable race for this sort of thing, the further down the order the more chaotic it gets. I also wonder if some people were voting for what they wanted to happen (by voting Hamilton to finish really low down, as his average when from 1 after about 11 votes to briefly in third place) rather than what they thought would happen.

I was one who thought Hamilton wouldn't finish. Not that I wished it to happen, but it wouldn't have been the first time the start ends in drama at Monaco (finally Verstappen waited much longer than I thought to try something that could have made me right). I thought the Test had to be balanced...
By the way, apart from being the second letter of the Greek alphabet, Beta ("bĂȘta") is mostly used for "gently stupid" in French... May be we took the Beta Test too literally.

Did cross my mind that it would ideal for that very poll!

I like it, nice feature.
