Crofty just said something during the Sky coverage of FP1 that I thought was a pretty cool idea - Having heart rate monitors strapped on the drivers wrist/chest or whatever. It would be cool to see during a particularly long slide, or how elevated their heart rates get during an overtake battle. Imagine Button vs Perez last race!

Good idea, but I'm not sure how exciting it would be; perhaps their heart rates are static throughout the entire race.

I'm surprised they don't do this for health reasons anyway to be honest. With young, fit sportsmen succumbing to unseen heart conditions in other sports there's no reason why the same couldn't happen in F1.

Sometimes I think we need to realise what century we're in and start using the resources and technology that are available to us. I'd hate to see a driver suffer from something similar to Fabrice Muamba, not least because at 200mph you'd do a lot more than just fall to the ground.

They really should be monitoring drivers' health conditions throughout a race by now.

Would be fun to see the heart rate during overtakes, start, slides, etc.

This has been done before, with very interesting results from my favorite racing driver of all time.

http://formula1.about.com/od/drivers/a/ ... ravery.htm

"In his biography of Villeneuve, the Canadian journalist Gerald Donaldson recounts how Villeneuve and his teammate at Ferrari, Didier Pironi, were tested for pulse rate while racing. At Monaco, Pironi's pulse went from 60 beats per minute to between 180 and 207 throughout the race. In Villeneuve's case, ''the medical people were shocked to find his heart rate barely blipped above an average of 127 despite his ever-vigorous on-track activities.''
