Well I knew that run at the top was too good to be true. Congrats to the new leaders and good job team mate for keeping the team in it!

2017 CANADIAN GRAND PRIX RESULTS

The Canadian GP was a classic, exciting motor race. It was also hot, terribly windy, and bitterly disappointing if you happen to be an Alonso fan. But the, what race isn't these days? x(

Anyway, on to the results. Although Mercedes was widely tapped in advance to be the team to beat, Ferrari's early form in practice saw many going for a red car to stand atop the podium. In fact, the field was split 11 to 7 in favor of the eventual winner, Lewis Hamilton. Confidence in his teammate to come home second was far lower, however, and in the end it decided the winners: nobody foresaw the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo rounding out the podium.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Place - 8 points
mcdo, Remmirath, TypingChicane

Second Place - 5 points
Jenson's Understeer, Mayhem, Herb, Lotus49, theferret, Jezza13, Fountoukos13, Ruste13

Third Place - 0 points
Everybody else

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A second consecutive no-score for TheDamus sees the lead change hands, but surprisingly enough it isn't one of Icemanjee1 or Black_Flag_11 who claims it. Instead, we have a new championship leader: TypingChicane, having never won a round before now, eases into the head of the standings through consistency on 36 points. TheDamus and Icemanjee1 - neither of whom scored this round - are both two points back on 34 points, but they have been joined now by the current Top 10 leader, mcdo.

A little way behind them comes the incredibly tight midfield, headed by Black_Flag_11, who also failed to score this round and remains on 28 points. Also on 28 points are Herb and Jezza13, with Mayhem directly behind on 27 and Remmirath moving into 9th with 25 points courtesy of this win. Exediron, having sat 6th going into Canada, is now 10th, tied with teammate Jenson's Understeer and Ruste13 on 24 points.

Behind them is cm97 in 13th, who's been having a torrid time of it lately, followed by theferret as the last of the contestants who has scored over 20 points. Fountoukos13 is 15th with 18 points, then Lotus49 and Bentrovoto, tied on 17 points.

At the back in 18th place, shockingly enough, is last year's runaway championship winner robins13, having managed to score only 14 points in total so far this season.

Individual Standings - Round Seven

1. TypingChicane --- 36 Points
2. TheDamus --- 34 Points (1 Perfect Podium, 3 Wins)
3. mcdo --- 34 Points (1 Perfect Podium, 2 Wins)
4. Icemanjee1 --- 34 Points (0 Perfect Podiums)
5. Jezza13 --- 29 Points
6. Black_Flag_11 --- 28 Points (1 Perfect Podium, 2 Wins)
7. Herb -- 28 Points (1 Perfect Podium, 1 Win)
8. Mayhem --- 27 Points
9. Remmirath --- 25 Points
10. Exediron --- 24 Points (1 Perfect Podium)
11. Jenson's Understeer --- 24 Points (0 Perfect Podiums, 1 Win)
12. Ruste13 --- 24 Points (0 Perfect Podiums, 0 Wins)
13. cm97 --- 22 Points
14. theferret --- 21 Points
15. Fountoukos13 --- 18 Points
16. Lotus49 --- 17 Points (1 Win)
17. Bentrovato --- 17 Points (0 Wins)
18. robins13 --- 14 Points

In the team standings, Bernie's Bwoah has hopefully enjoyed their brief time on top; failure by either driver to score this round sees them kicked off. Ironically, in a round where TheDamus once again failed to score, it is Drive Sauber who now take the lead, powered by the revitalized scoring of their #2, Remmirath. Jalopy Racing also jumps ahead of Bernie's Bwoah, with the lead three separated by only 3 points.

A little further back, McLotus powers ahead of the once-again struggling No Limit Excedrin Racing, who in turn manage to stay just ahead of the defending champions, Mind Your Manors. Sand Bag'n and Massa Attack remained locked in their battle for the back, with no change of position this time around.

Team Standings - Round Seven

1. Drive Sauber (Remmirath & TheDamus) --- 59 Points
2. Jalopy Racing (Herb & Jezza13) --- 57 Points
3. Bernie's Bwoah (Icemanjee1 & cm97) --- 56 Points
4. McLotus (Lotus49 & mcdo) --- 51 Points
5. No Limit Excedrin Racing (Exediron & Jenson's Understeer) --- 48 Points
6. Mind Your Manors (Black_Flag_11 & Fountoukos13) --- 46 Points
7. Sand Bag'n (robins13 & Mayhem) --- 41 Points
8. Massa Attack (theferret & Bentrovato) --- 38 Points

And that's that for Canada!

Knockout Cup Qualification Round: Update Two!

With both matches tied 5-5 after the first of three races, we were essentially left with a best-of-two battle between Bentrovato and Fountoukos13, as well as Remmirath and robins13. Two of the four teams took a big step towards securing their place in the main Knockout Cup tournament. For the record, the score in brackets is the race score, while the other number is the total score for the match-up:

Bentrovato (0) 5 - 10 (5) Fountoukos13
Remmirath (8) 13 - 5 (0) robins13

Remmirath and Fountoukos13 both look strong favourites to escape the qualification round, in no small part thanks to a complete failure to score on the part of Bentrovato and robins13. However, with one more race to come it isn't all done and dusted. Aside from being able to advance by outscoring Foutnoukos13 by six or more points in Baku, should they end up level, Bentrovato is guaranteed to advance by (at worst) the third tie-breaker of being the higher seed.

The outlook for robins13 is a lot bleaker. With Remmirath being not just the higher seed but also having shared the round victory in Canada, it means both the second and third tie-breakers are already guaranteed to fall in Remmirath's favour. There is only one scenario that will see robins13 advance: a perfect podium combined with Remmirath scoring no more than five points.

I wish I had predicted prior to FP1 and FP2, then not had a chance to come back online and edit my prediction. I can't help but feel the outcome of those two sessions is going to lead me in completely the wrong direction...

1. Vettel
2. Verstappen
3. Ricciardo

Hmm, let's see... Seb looks scrappy, Lewis looks slow, and the Bulls look astonishingly quick on a track where they shouldn't have any pace.

:?

I'm going to wait a little longer and study some long runs, but I think I'm probably going to amend my picks.

I have to wonder whether FP1 and FP2 were indicative, but unfortunately watching FP3 in time to post after would basically require me not to sleep, so major guesswork it is!

The more thought I give this one, the more unsure I become. Therefore, I shall put my faith in the usual suspects.

Baku:

1. Vettel
2. Hamilton
3. Bottas

2017 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX RESULTS

Well. That was probably the most bizarre, crazy, mixed-up race in recent memory. That anybody scored points from it is a surprise, but in fact seven entrants managed to do just that! And on a coincidental note, we happen to have seven winners this round! ;)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Place - 3 points
Herb, Lotus49, Exediron, Icemanjee1, Black_Flag_11, TheDamus, Fountoukos13

Second Place - 0 points
Everybody else

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TheDamus may have just left the lead, but it wasn't to last long, because a no-score by TypingChicane has effectively flipped the result around. TheDamus and Icemanjee1 both jump our oh-so-temporary championship leader, the pair still separated by the longstanding tiebreaker of TheDamus' perfect podium. TypingChicane holds on to 3rd, a single point in arrears.

Behind them, mcdo holds station in fourth place, with Black_Flag_11 and Herb moving up to 5th and 6th on the strength of their scoring this round. Jezza13 didn't score, but hangs on to 7th with 29 points, now chased by one-time title challengers Exediron and Mayhem on 27 points. Remmirath rounds out the top ten on 25, having also failed to score this round.

A little further back, Jenson's Understeer, Ruste13 and cm97 all failed to score and remain in 11th, 12th and 13th positions. Fountoukos13 did score, however, and moves up to 14th as a result, demoting theferret. Lotus49, another round winner this time, is just behind. Rounding out the back are Bentrovato and robins13, neither of whom scored in Baku.

Individual Standings - Round Eight

1. TheDamus --- 37 Points (1 Perfect Podium)
2. Icemanjee1 --- 37 Points (0 Perfect Podiums)
3. TypingChicane --- 36 Points
4. mcdo --- 34 Points
5. Black_Flag_11 --- 31 Points (1 Perfect Podium, 3 Wins)
6. Herb -- 31 Points (1 Perfect Podium, 2 Wins)
7. Jezza13 --- 29 Points
8. Exediron --- 27 Points (1 Perfect Podium)
9. Mayhem --- 27 Points (0 Perfect Podiums)
10. Remmirath --- 25 Points
11. Jenson's Understeer --- 24 Points (0 Perfect Podiums, 1 Win)
12. Ruste13 --- 24 Points (0 Perfect Podiums, 0 Wins)
13. cm97 --- 22 Points
14. Fountoukos13 --- 21 Points
15. theferret --- 21 Points
16. Lotus49 --- 20 Points
17. Bentrovato --- 17 Points
18. robins13 --- 14 Points

In the team standings, the top four remain in order with the gaps virtually unchanged; one driver from each team scored this round.

Behind them, something finally went right for the defending champions Mind Your Manors; as the only team to score with both halves of the garage, they leapfrog the struggling 2015 champions No Limit Excedrin Racing to take the coveted 5th position. NLER is just behind in 6th, separated by a single point.

After that, it's a bit of a gap to the final pair of Sand Bag'n and Massa Attack, neither of whom scored with either driver this round. They remain 7th and 8th.

Team Standings - Round Eight

1. Drive Sauber (Remmirath & TheDamus) --- 62 Points
2. Jalopy Racing (Herb & Jezza13) --- 60 Points
3. Bernie's Bwoah (Icemanjee1 & cm97) --- 59 Points
4. McLotus (Lotus49 & mcdo) --- 54 Points
5. Mind Your Manors (Black_Flag_11 & Fountoukos13) --- 52 Points
6. No Limit Excedrin Racing (Exediron & Jenson's Understeer) --- 51 Points
7. Sand Bag'n (robins13 & Mayhem) --- 41 Points
8. Massa Attack (theferret & Bentrovato) --- 38 Points

Not a lot of points to be won that round, and indeed overall scoring is lagging significantly behind this stage last season. Will Austria prove to be a more predictable track? And if so, who might be able to come away with the perfect podium, potentially re-writing the standings entirely?

We'll know in two weeks time! 8)

Knockout Cup - Qualification Round Update #3!

With nobody managing to score more than three points in Baku, and both Bentrovato and robins13 requiring more than that amount to overturn the deficits they had, it will be no surprise to anyone that Fountoukos13 and Remmirath have successfully defended the leads they had heading to Azerbaijan. In fact, Fountoukos13 was one of the seven people to correctly predict a second place finish for Bottas, ensuring that both Qualification matches end 13-5.

Bentrovato (0) 5 - 13 (3) Fountoukos13
Remmirath (0) 13 - 5 (0) robins13

So we now lurch into the Round of 16 where the match-ups are as follows:

#1 TheDamus vs. 18 Fountoukos13
#2 Icemanjee1 vs. #16 Remmirath
#3 Black_Flag_11 vs. #14 Lotus49
#4 Herb vs. #13 Jenson's Understeer
#5 TypingChicane vs. #12 Ruste13
#6 mcdo vs. #11 theferret
#7 Mayhem vs. #10 cm97
#8 Exediron vs. #9 Jezza13

Let the fun and games begin!
